About the Payroll Operations Manager position
Payroll Systems, a payroll service bureau located in Waco, is hiring a Payroll Operations Manager to join our growing team.
Payroll Systems provides streamlined payroll processing with exceptional client service to our payroll clients. Payroll Systems is a division of JRBT – one of the most respected accounting firms in Texas.
The Payroll Operations Manager would supervise our outstanding payroll team, oversee the payroll service bureau daily operations and report to JRBT shareholder(s).
Responsibilities
- Direct our team of payroll professionals and promote team culture
- Willingness to jump in and roll up your sleeves to help out when necessary
- Lead by example
- Strong, friendly follow-up necessary on tasks delegated to ensure proper results
- Delegating details to payroll professionals with careful, close follow up while making necessary corrections in a constructive and supportive manner
- Foster open communication internally within all levels of organization and externally with clients
- Oversee accurate and timely completion of payrolls and related tax setup and filing requirements
- Handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Assist with quarterly and year end payroll tax return processing including ACA
- Assist with implementing, maintaining, reviewing and updating payroll procedures
- Assist with payroll software vendor relationships and implement software updates
- Oversee utilization of software to continuously improve processing efficiencies
- Organize and assist with internal payroll professional and external client trainings
- Research and communicate legislation changes with payroll bureau, JRBT and clients
- Assist with internal and external payroll presentations and marketing efforts
- Handle payroll IRS and state correspondence and notice resolution for payroll bureau and JRBT
- Assist JRBT shareholder(s) with staff evaluations and other management activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by JRBT shareholder(s)
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field
- CPA license or IRS Enrolled Agent
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) (preferred – required within first 6 months of hire)
- At least 5 years of experience in a payroll service bureau setting or payroll administration/management
- Multi-state taxation and reporting experience
- Extensive knowledge of payroll tax laws and payroll research
- IRS and state agency notice resolution and casework experience
- Teaching style of communication is required and the ability to motivate others while being aware of and responsive to their needs and concerns
- Ability to work at a faster-than-average pace
- Strong attention to details where they will be handled quickly, correctly, and efficiently
- Strong organization and time management skills and ability to work in high demand, fast paced environment
- Able to project a professional image
